The northern lights (aurora borealis) light up the sky over Artist Point, northeast of Mt. Baker. It was a completely surreal experience - all of a sudden, the lights went from subtle and moody to exploding with color, movement, and shapes. For this shot, I tried to capture this experience as a self-portrait.
The aurora is quite rare around Seattle, owing to our usually cloudy weather and distance from the magnetic pole, but when they do show up, it's a real treat!
